The UK Gov was correct to keep windfall taxes on the oil companies who have profited so much from the pain of household energy bills in recent years. 📈

And it is embarrassing for all those politicians pleading poverty on behalf of huge firms who’ve made hundreds of billions in profits.🤑

However, it is infuriating to see the political capitulation to the fossil fuel lobby by allowing more drilling in existing fields through “tiebacks” 🙄

These loopholes must be closed because the of the climate pollution they will inevitably produce. 🌪️

Ministers must quickly follow this up with a ban on drilling new fields, starting with stopping Rosebank and Cambo. 🛑

There also must be substantial funding to support workers and communities through the transition to renewables. 👨‍🏭
