Been waiting on this release for a while and oh what a beautiful steel it is. CONSTANTINE hits its 20th anniversary this year and it’s never looked better.

WOLF MAN was not good. The pieces are there & we know Leigh Whannell can deliver, but this feels like a project where he came in at the 11th hour to save and just didn’t have the time or resources to do so. Bummer. Points for the excellent camerawork & sound design.

Physical media dump for January. I’ll say it again, on the domestic front, @lionsgate.com puts out the best steelbooks. Always great cover designs and their Tarantino launch was no different.

THE SUBSTANCE is destined to be a body horror classic. I felt like I was watching a twilight zone episode told through the lens of Kubrick or Cronenberg (soooo many references). No sophomore slump for director Coralie Fargeat and it’s good seeing Demi Moore crush this material.

What I can confidently say is I’m absolutely blown away by what Adrian Brody does here, in a career defining performance. Dare I say might go down as one of the best this decade has to offer. Similar feelings for Guy Pearce, the scenes between him and Brody are electric.

Haven’t stopped thinking about THE BRUTALIST since I saw it. It’s impressive filmmaking from top to bottom but I don’t know if the hype is warranted. It’s feels like the story’s ambitions exceed its grasp at times. Need to marinate on it more.

ANORA is the anti-Cinderella story. Sean Baker delivers yet another honest, unapologetic film with characters so vivid and lived in you’d think it was based on a true story. Mikey Madison is a force of nature, easily securing her spot come Oscar season.

GLADIATOR II is a decent sequel to the classic original. Boasting top notch production value, epic battles and a scene-stealing Denzel Washington, you’ll be entertained by what’s on screen. Where it lacks is in the emotional heft that was the backbone in the first film.

SATURDAY NIGHT is pure chaos. Perfectly encapsulates the anxiety & drama of trying to put on the first ever episode of SNL. A dynamite ensemble keeps the pace rolling with a compelling lead performance from Gabriel LaBell trying to reel it all in. One of my favorites of 2024.
