Annoying smartarse
*I am of course talking about people like Mandelson, who didn’t give a fuck about any of it and had very obvious other priorities. As the Lib Dems themselves noted in their report, their own leadership were coked up out of their brains on a bit of media attention, and believed they’d kick ass.

Not in the belief that this would defeat Johnson and Stop Brexit*, you understand. In the certain knowledge that it would fail disastrously, because that was the whole aim of the project.

Nothing suspect about either of those guys, neither of whom has expressed regret for pushing such an obviously clownish, doomed and catastrophic strategy

I’d say they’ve been desperately holding this together for about ten years at least but you can’t fight Spring with a lawnmower, can you. That’s why they’ve been absently fingering the nuclear button that is “Okay, fascism it is then”.

He knows exactly what he’s playing at
December 3, 2025 at 10:25 AM
This holds true across the white people world, doesn’t it: tiny gaggles of political and media insiders, angrily insisting that *tens of millions* of people are utterly deranged, when there is a much more likely explanation that involves far smaller numbers of people who work and socialise together.

Almost like it was all an idiotic PR campaign by bullshit artists explicitly designed to fool one million idiots into voting for the Lib Dems, a party that had 12 MPs before the election and 11 after it.

One wonders why that’s even necessary, given Remain Is A Force That Will Shape Britain Long After Brexit, as he so confidently predicted in 2019.

I don’t expect him to like it - I’m not convinced it’s great myself. But I am a bit surprised how many people just… don’t notice.

Comically so

Hmm

Did you see me saying “Avatar is an unimpeachable movie that has no flaws and criticism of it is forbidden”? Does it sound like I’m disagreeing with you, here.
December 3, 2025 at 9:26 AM
Oh no, I get it, I’m not here to tell you these are a wonderful movies with no glaring problems.
December 3, 2025 at 9:22 AM
It sure is! It’s crass on several levels.
December 3, 2025 at 9:20 AM
It’s crass and hamfisted in all kinds of ways, yes. All over the noble savage stuff.
December 3, 2025 at 9:17 AM
Given who’s speaking there, I would have to concede that it lacks the grandeur and character work of, uh, Antman & The Wasp, but.
December 3, 2025 at 9:13 AM
Obviously it’s not for everyone but it’s not nothing, is it. Quite a tricky one to do, and I’m surprised it hasn’t provoked more flailing and screeching.
December 3, 2025 at 9:09 AM
No doubt the the ten foot blue aliens are ridiculous and all, but I think the political message it’s sending to the public should be pretty damn clear, and it’s the type of thing that would get you referred to Prevent if you articulated it in our present context. Top grossing movie of all time.

An ancient Sensible Centrist term that means “cappuccino”
December 3, 2025 at 8:41 AM
The whole point of the privatisation project - aside from transferring huge sums of wealth into private hands - was to put as much of the state as far as possible beyond democratic control, so that future governments would have to shrug at the public and say “Nothing we can do, mate”.
