I've lived in the UK for years before moving to Canada. Never noticed "gaol" being used for jail. Not once.

Nonetheless, it's good to see that Trump's threats are toothless.
As soon as it turns out people ignored him, it becomes "oh I wasn't involved anyway"
He can't act on his threats if he loses, because it would mean he needs to first acknowledge he lost.
Can't do that.
Threats = ø, zilch, nada.

Yeah, I hope this time the Dems aren't going to shackle and limit themselves to "rules and traditions" that aren't even laws, and just leak everything, after the DoJ releases its Trump free version.
Then they can show the rest and go "weird how these pics and videos weren't released huh?"
December 13, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Man there you go.
Massive threats, which were ignored, and 0 consequences for not bringing over backwards to do Trump's bidding.

I hope for them that the GOP is taking notes. That's the off ramp for the after Trump, last chance to get off and wash their hands before it's too late.

on American protesters, I think that in a few years time, very few will openly admit they supported the regime.
Usually takes years to get there, but Trump is so rubbish at being a despot, he didn't even manage to be liked by most Americans.
Good luck, everyone, it will hurt and that's a good thing.
December 13, 2025 at 3:47 AM
didn't matter to them, the destruction of America's relationships with its allies, the tariffs damaging the economy, all this was ignorable if you have no empathy and a little bit of money on the side.
But that won't do with what's coming now.
And seeing that they're itching to unleash the military

I think Trump has the potential to reaaaally make life awful for almost everyone in the US.
So, maybe not the most delusional magas, maybe not the 20 or 30% who have long departed reality. But many who voted for him and the GOP will have their eyes pried opened.
The treatment of immigrants by ICE
December 13, 2025 at 3:46 AM
I'm not so sure about that.
Americans have been used to weird things like school shootings and healthcare related bankruptcies, yes.

But when they will see members of their family die because the ACA essentially disappeared under Trump.... and things are nowhere near being as bad as it will get.
December 13, 2025 at 3:46 AM
Been saying this for months.
The pain has to be far, wide and deep, so that even maga can't deny it.
And if media like Fox could go on about how things ackshually are fine, all the merrier.

Looks like it's in the works. Who would buy a plane ticket to go to the World Cup, if this crap applies before summer?

A new study shows that cutting social media use for just one week can reduce mental health symptoms, like anxiety and depression, in young adults.

I don't know who "we" is in your sentence. But it's not any politician in charge of writing regulations.
None of this is going to happen.
I'm not moving the goalposts, I'm asking for an alternative solution, or the beginning of it, that has an actual chance of happening.

and that's absolutely unfair.
Blocking social media's access to kids today will not the be solution to all these issues, but if it can improve the situation *a bit*, my god that's better than hoping smth positive happens in 10 years.
December 11, 2025 at 7:25 PM
None of this BS should even reach our kids. Ai, social media, phone companies etc.
This is all predatory, and not there to help kids.
Lucky kids who have parents who are aware of the dangers, have the time, means and knowledge on how to protect them, will get well ahead of other, less fortunate kids
December 11, 2025 at 7:25 PM
to their kids (and if you see it as social media being denied access to kids rather than kids having access to social media, it kind of changes the point) so we'll see, well before 10 years have passed, if it will have worked.
And Ai having full access to our kids is going to be the next battle.

"will take 10 years to fix"
We don't have 10 years.
Social media will not be regulated. You say it yourself, even liberal politicians are chummy with tech moguls.
So how is all this ideal regulation going to happen if no politician will push it?

Australia got on the way to deny social media access
