The answer lies in the Scottian curse - the more centralized a system becomes, the more it needs to rely on abstraction of reality, the more myopic it is regarding the consequences of its decisions.
And because it's able to shape what most people perceive or want, this has ample downstream effects

First of all I have a beef with this definition of power, even if instrumentally within the argument.
Power is not only about "bringing about what you want", it is also about "shaping what others want". This is critical when we consider the dynamics of incentive structure discussed in the article
