We have our favourite wools that we make our animals with spun into yarns and work with @annarave.bsky.social to knit simple beanies that are all about the natural shades and texture of the wools.

We were recently asked to make a trophy for the Dublin Animation Meet-up (DAM) Audience Award based on their Beaver character.

I love bringing other people’s illustrations to life and usually do one or two of these projects each year.

Our robins are made with natural brown Merino around Galway stuffing with a patch of dyed merino attached at hand felting stage. Beaks and feet are cut from taupe coloured sheet wool felt and they’re all stitched together with natural Shetland yarn which also does the eyes.

Youngest is on a sick day so I’ve brought robins home to sew while he naps.

Cutting felt feet and beak pieces for our Robins at home. We need a lot of these this time of year.

Our Christmas cards use scraps and offcuts of wool felt, stuck with eco glue over a print of a tree trunk drawing on recycled card and come with a recycled envelope packed in clear cornstarch cellophane.
Pick out a selection Instore!

We’re settled back into a new school term so shop opening hours will be 10 - 2 weekdays (bar the inevitable few sick days!)
We’ve been working on our Autumn/Winter pieces over the summer with customer favourite Robins out on the shelves this week.

We’ve been working with 100% Irish Galway Wool for a batch of sheep - it’s normally the just the stuffing as it’s SO hard to work with as an outside layer.
A few other favourites that can be all white on the way.

Puffins were a special request by @cleoltd.bsky.social (though we try to keep a few at our shop). For years I thought there was too many details for puffins to work - all the colours in the beak, the. Icy markings, the shape - it this is how we’ve simplified it for our range

I’ve been in Kildare at my father in law’s funeral and met his uncle who is 93 and told me he owned Smithfield Motor Company which was situated on the same road as my shop, Benburb St. I found these photos and it seems to be opposite current Fidelity bar, where Bargaintown is now.

It’s Daffodil Day in support of the Irish Cancer Society, plenty of places to donate around Dublin City this morning. Seems extra significant this year with services being cut in the US. Thanks to all the volunteers and best wishes to all in treatment now.

One of our rarer coloured wool creatures, usually found hiding at the back of the shop as they’re one of the more time consuming pieces. Just finished 5 of them, which probably record stock levels.

A lot of people discover our store for the first time over St Patrick’s Weekend, here’s some of the other non felt animals products by other people and natural crafting wools we have for your own projects. Looking forward to a buzzing Dublin!

St Patrick’s Day is coming up, it’s been a full weekend festival last few years, based at Collin’s Square in the museum on our road. We usually see an influx of tourists, particularly Americans - I wonder what to expect this year, are Americans travelling to Europe?

This is natural grey Gotland wool, it’s dark and coarse with a bit of a sheen and it’s quick to form a stiff felt. These sheep bodies are made with Gotland on the outside and Galway inside and finished with white Romney parts. Handmade at our Dublin City shop

A few years ago we made Puffling models for promotion of @gerrydalyart.bsky.social and @erikamcgann.bsky.social which go in bookshop windows and to school readings. My boys love the books and the third book in the series is published today as Gaeilge

We end up with a lot of small offcuts and often have to sort them - working out what finishing features we have helps us decide what body parts to start. The little white triangles will become bunny tails for a springtime special
