Voracious reader. Politics junkie. Senior woman lacing up my HOKAs and preparing to resist. . .again. Sigh.
Don’t hesitate. Write them! Or talk to them. That’s how they know what their customers like. And how they know they’re appreciated (aside from the fact that you continue to eat there).

You make an excellent argument for bringing back apprentice programs.

A contributing factor to people’s disillusionment may be the fact that wages for many of the jobs and professions graduates get have not kept pace with the cost of college or, indeed, the cost of living.

Anything you can find by Alexis Hall or Cat Sebastian. They’re all well plotted, have three-dimensional characters, and are beautifully written.

It’s not like American citizens-by-birth haven’t been known to shoot anything that moves, including law enforcement officers. We shoot how many tens of thousands of people per year? The murderer did what the trump said “we have to get over” when it happens to school kids. Pure racism.

We’re thankful for you, Harry!

You’re doing fine. I read the same 25 over and over and over again. We get comfort from where we can find it these days.

Assuming of course that in 80-100 years we have a system in which events and facts can be accurately taught—and not the “alternative fact” invented version of history that the current regime fully intends to put in place.

Cat Sebastian wrote a terrific baseball gay romance: You Should Be So Lucky. All her books are worth reading.

I’m shocked that Tesla sales dropped so little. I expected that Musk and by association the Tesla brand were so toxic in California that sales would have dropped much much more.

I made this today based on your recommendation. Delicious! I don’t normally look to you for recipes, but I’ll look forward to those in addition to your always interesting history and political posts.

I doubt it, unless he’s subpoenaed, and even then he won’t go beyond the narrowest boundaries of the question. Trust Dems to find one of the most tight-lipped ethical lawyers.

Your looks are not as important as you being free to be yourself. Very happy for you.

I could have happily gone through my entire life without knowing the existence of this word.

I hope someone sorts this out soon, because subscribing to some legacy media plus substacks plus other newsletters is getting really really expensive for me as a news junkie. Plus, even as a retired person I don’t have time to read everyone I currently support and would want to support.

Every dollar given to a poor or middle-class person is a dollar dt can’t grab for himself. Every dollar given to a non-billionaire is a dollar that won’t eventually find itself benefiting dt. And every dollar given to a non-maga is a dollar dt can’t grift.

I’ve been subscribing to your newsletter for quite a long time. Is there a way to help with the publishing of this book without going through kickstarter?
November 9, 2025 at 2:23 AM
I don’t want to set up a kickstarter account, but I do want to support your work (I have all your other books). Is there a way to support you directly without going through kickstarter (aside from buying the book, that is—I will eventually buy several copies as gifts)?

Vance at the same time conveniently ignoring, no doubt, all the children currently being sacrificed due to trump policies of ending the Agy for International Development, plus promoting anti-vaccine/anti-science/anti-public health/pro-pollution policies.

Excellent points and thank you for responding.

I greatly admire your work. I’m genuinely curious as to how you judge a person’s sincerity when they denounce their former attitudes & when you think their claims of having changed their beliefs/support should be trusted. Your conclusion re Platner is clear, but why do you not accept his assertions?
