Making light… my handwriting is atrocious. Does this mean I’m not gay enough?

But also do what you need to do for yourself!

Yeah some of my peers were all "omg he was the best" and others hated him..so i guess he made a good guest cos he made you think about your stance on things!

So we had this one project, to write and storyboard a trailer for a fake documentary. My tutors loved it, the first project they really vibed with. They praised my NARRATIVE STORYTELLING.

I was still convinced I was meant to be an editorial illustrator xD

Oh noooo baby nooooo.

Me at school "oh i could totally be an editorial illustrator! Look at my editorial projects!"

Me now "oh honey no..." XD
December 19, 2025 at 7:01 PM
Tbf to me my illustration school skewed a little more editorial so for some projects there was a bit of trying to shove a narrative illustrator in an editorial shaped box... So when i left and could be fully narrative it was naturally more chill...

Yeah xD i say I learned how to chill out because I was not chill at all for 4 years!
December 19, 2025 at 6:45 PM
I half jest that what I really learned at art school was how to chill out.

I used to overthink ideas and assume I always had to be deep and profound or it didnt matter. Learning the idea could be simple blew my tiny mind xD

I went into Art School as the kind of artist my teacher called a "photocopier" in that I could paint realism very well but I didn't know what I was doing with it xD

I did hyper realism for fun and then weird whatever at school. Finding the bit in between took a while!

The magic really happens when you can apply your drawing style to your ideas xD but that takes a while...

I used to talk about how I felt like 2 separate artists, the one with good ideas, and the one who drew well... It took years to get them to meet in the middle xD

Ah but then you are doing it intentionally. Not just by default.

You have to then decide what and how to communicate about the beauty.
December 19, 2025 at 1:51 PM
Omg yes, we got that one too.

Which actually, looking back, is a true statistic. (From my course at least)

But optimistically it’s actually because a lot of kids realised that working to other people’s briefs and deadlines isn’t what they wanted. They still make art, they just aren’t ”working”.

As this is in response to the soulless beauty of AI, unless you are using it, you’re doing fine.

Art school is a ride…. XD

I can’t even remember his name, but he was the most disrespectful, arrogant, artist I’ve ever met.

He told us a story (proudly) about how after he did a project somewhere the building had to replace the windows because he ruined them.

I definitely learned, just not what he was teaching…
