But, ya know, ironically
I don’t get the sense that’s needed since Rs from JoCo + emporia are against it. Masterson said house was still 10 votes away from Kelly override and did not project confidence at ALEC. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right. Bummer tho, I think a generic D can win this district nowadays.

Real q since I’ve learned you’re in KC (as am I). How is the chapter here?? I’ve considered joining but hear that experiences vary so wildly based on where you are

I’m neither a lawyer nor a historian, but do Rehnquist was a despicable racist who was against brown v board as a clerk and who profiled Hispanic people trying to vote in his free time before joining the court:

William Rehnquist Was the Original Trump Judge
Two decades after Rehnquist’s death, a new generation of conservative activists is scoring life-tenured federal judgeships by following in his unabashedly bigoted footsteps.

1) this is crazy
2) so happy to find a good size account in KC

Reasonable take, but really I’m just commenting to boost the numbers and positively reinforce you being active here

I thought Maas’s other series was great. Absolutely mowed through it, so much fun. I started ACOTAR on an evening with terrible insomnia, got 2/3 through it before falling asleep, and could not finish it after multiple efforts to return bc it was so bad. Truly felt all tropes going nowhere.

I think this result is making her consider it, even after KS gerrymandering fail. I’m a KS resident and just got a push poll clearly testing her against Marshall. At a minimum, someone with money wants her to run.

So I know there were pre-KS-gerrymandering fail reports of Davids senate exploration, and it seems to be ongoing. I’m a KS resident and just got a push poll clearly exploring her viability against Marshall and testing messaging.

They may be similar *quality* players but they are very different. Almost opposites. One is firmly below average across basically all physical tools and makes up for it w anticipation. The other can be late w reads but has very strong tools across almost every physical category.

Is primarily calling it Burma in the report just the Trump admin using every excuse to be shitty or is there some way that Myanmar’s name change is considered “unofficial” or something by the international community?
November 25, 2025 at 5:07 AM
I hope so! And it seems in this case, the focus is on Puerto Ricans rights, not the addition of partisan seats. I have just seen too many lists like this where PR is presented as a little more than a tool to serve Democrats’ ends, and I think it’s important to call out that that’s fucked up.
November 12, 2025 at 1:13 PM
I don’t think that’s a very fair representation. There is honest, grassroots resistance to being further integrated into the empire that colonized them. The current situation IS fucked. But they deserve self determination, not to be forced to statehood.
November 12, 2025 at 5:24 AM
I will post till blue in the face that PR statehood does not belong on these lists. It MUST be PR self-determination, which may very well not be statehood. They deserve better than they have now, but what they want may not serve our political ends and we should accept that.

So it is a zero sum game and it’s fundamentally different values, as Max stated, not just different preferences. I’m not gonna try to convince you otherwise on this value, but it does prove it’s a difference of values not preferences.

Property tax. Yes, people in burbs tend to be wealthier and contribute more via income tax. But suburban style developments do not pay enough in property taxes to sustain the cost of spread out infrastructure. Compact res and business districts subsidize burbs in this way.
November 11, 2025 at 12:04 AM
I don’t find it hard to “understand” a preference for the burbs. I find it unreasonable for that preference to define others’ ability to develop their own property, and I know that suburban development is not financially self-sustaining long term. I
November 10, 2025 at 11:49 PM
People can prefer the burbs. The arg is whether they should be allowed to infringe on the property rights of others to maintain that preference (while also making housing more expensive).

Also most burb residents don’t bear the cost of that development style. It’s heavily subsidized.

Like, having your big hits go from pretty vaguely conservative codes paeans to the past/rurality, to some deeply racist bloodthirsty shit (with an ideology), to just plain lowest common denominator intentionally trashy cultural appeal IS the path from pre-W —> W —> Trump

Toby Keith. Died before the full turn, but:

Should’ve been a cowboy (‘93) —> courtesy of the red white and blue/beer for my horses (‘01) —> red solo cup (‘11)

Tracks the conservative movement really fucking well
