I've read a lot of scripts this year from aspiring writers. The biggest overlap I saw was failing to tie plot to character goals. Scenes were often clever ideas, not born of the protagonist's wants/needs. Maybe a module like 'how character drives plot'?

Sending some love for Meghan Park's MY OLD ASS -- it's wildly different genre, and written by a woman. Not many movies I saw this year were so specific -- and that's what makes a movie universal.

I always thought of this as the scene where Turner and Harron showed us the only glimmer of Bateman's humanity. Jean is the only non-appearance obsessed person he knows. She's talking to him about real life. He hears Evelyn's voice and is reminded that without Jean, everyone else is an Evelyn.
