Dogs should be safe, legal, and rare
This is true but tech is still a very high margin business, so salaries weren't just driven by supply and demand

The idea that there's no productive economic opportunities in the 21st century seems...not correct. I think this piece gets causality backwards - growth will slow because we've let corruption go hog-wild, not the other way around

I think frequently about the scene in Billions where they all get high on nootropic stimulants and are convinced they're going to make the trades of their life. Then the square has to come in and tell them they're just idiots on drugs, not brilliant

the midtwit answer of "just use wirecutter" is correct. Even if it's not always the best, it's 80% of the way to being the best with no cognitive load, which is the point

oh yeah 100%, but "core gaming" (which is in a slow but steady decline) is mostly free of it

gamers being incredibly whiny consumers is sometimes good

Video games are somewhat ironically the only medium where the backlash to gambling worked, current f2p monetization models aren't great but they're not literal gambling (mostly) anymore

MPD's stance seems to be "we won't ticket any traffic violations, car or bike" which is not great but at least they don't harass cyclists. I've been involved with cycling groups for years here and have never heard of someone getting a ticket

> drivers are not psychopaths

Respectfully going to disagree (DC is very nice though)

American Zionist orgs: It is with great reluctance that Israel will take up arms to defend the Jewish people against violent extremists

Israel: we're doing genocide and we like it

You could make the case that increased gridlock + cheaper taxis is actually better for transit because it improves the cost/benefit of car free living
December 2, 2025 at 8:10 PM
Yeah there are policy solutions to mitigate this but I think red-state cities that already suffer from traffic (like Austin) are going to be turbo-fucked
December 2, 2025 at 8:10 PM
the real victims here are going to be other drivers. If people can order cheap cars they can be On The Phone in traffic is going to be dystopic

They figured out how to do sunbelt-style growth without any actual sun

drivers would rather that speeding result in 10% chance of fine and .1% chance of execution rather than 80% chance of fine 0% chance of execution

Anthropic is accidentally positioning themselves as the woke AI company by virtue of not glazing fascists constantly

Galloway is the same from a more centrist perspective - he takes his shirt off onstage to show his muscles. This is the type of performance young men are getting today, which explains a lottt of the gender gap

But now being a "performative male" is dominated by people like Andrew Tate, who perform a very different type of masculinity. Take Zuckerberg, Musk, and Bezos; each one underwent huge physical (and mental) transformations to align with manliness
December 2, 2025 at 4:00 AM
imo the concept of a performative male in 2025 is totally different from what it was a decade ago. In 2015 it was what Mindel described - a guy who gets into female dominated hobbies to get laid

Isn't part of the issue that we literally did automate most of the industry so everyone remaining is management or ownership
