No, but that's because I don't eat turkey on any day.

Wow. That seriously doesn't make end-stage capitalism sense. We must have crazy people here in this state, thinking that overall efficiency and experience beats the bottom line. 😜

Preach.

Yeah I know about that, I just think they might balk at having you suck up power you don't actually need during the day and then sell it back to them at night. I can just think of so many ways to game or abuse a system like that. Mind you *I* have a conscience, unlike the people I'm worried about.

Oh anyway I think the big difference here is that we don't get free anything from Puget Sound Energy. I think if they started giving us free leccy during the day they'd keep track of it and use that number to adjust what they pay us for putting back into the grid.

You remember we 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 live in WA state, right? We just had a conversation in DMs the other week about our local connections, to massively oversimplify a very long chat. 😆

If this happened in America, companies would set up battery vaults of some kind, absorb as much electricity from the grid as they could during the day, and then sell it [back] during off-hours.

I wonder if all programmers eventually just want to make a programming language that doesn't suck. I know a few former co-workers who have been doing something similar even before retirement.
November 30, 2025 at 12:34 AM
I had to retire early on disability, so I kinda have personal basic income. I spend a LOT of time noodling with a programming language I've been working on for years. I'm not constrained by milestone dates or anything, so I can do all of the fiddly bikeshedding I want to make it a high QoL language.

Hey, NASA itself loves to emphasize that the EVA suit is a spaceship! A single-passenger spaceship, yes, but still! 😉

Me too! 😀

To be fair, if you're looking at a CG scene that doesn't have motion blur comparable to real life, a high refresh rate can make a significant difference to the perceived smoothness of motion. Without blur, we're basically quantizing motion curves over time, so the higher the time res, the better.

Hey, HEY.

Simmer down now!

Think about what you're saying!

Those GIFs would have to be decoded on the CPU! In software! These days all media needs to be handed off to the GPU to be processed asynchronously so the CPU is free to do the important work interpreting JavaScript and Python!

DUH.

I wonder how many people will pick your app up on a lark because it looks like fun, and then slowly move through bigger and more complex modeling tools and end up working in games or vfx.

I guarantee the number will be nonzero. 🙂

Are you going to have the Full Fire power-up? If so, a scrolling screen could hide certain death.

Related: This is too true. 😓

Unrelated: Please check your messages on X/twitter. I wanted to tell you something about your legs hurting but could not reply to that post. (My reply was too long anyway.)

At small sizes, it's impressionism all the way down.

Yeah super-high refresh is really only useful for pro gamers or a very, very beefy VR setup that won't suffer from latency. Niche needs either way. 120Hz is fine, though 144Hz is technically useful to avoid judder with 48fps film playback. Again, tho, niche needs.

I can see 4k/2160p vs 1080p but with 8k/4320p, I'd have to sit so close to see the diff that the area in my FoV might as well be a 4k screen.

Honestly, with my aging eyes, 1080p is fine, at least with ultrawide 2560x1080.

Kids with good eyesight might prefer 4k and might even see an 8k uplift. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Murderbot. I wasn't sure at first but ended up binging the entire series in one sitting, and I'm someone who doesn't really even watch shows anymore.

Oh, huh. For some reason I thought it was late '24, after the award nominations, like it is this year (Dec 25). I guess it even won! Well, I got my wish after all, cool. 😀

Aw, where's Fallout? They did a decent job. No, it's not totally accurate to the game, especially if you're a lore fanatic, but it's soooo much more accurate to the game than most other game adaptations are... sigh 😓
