Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women #vawd, honoring the Mirabal sisters—Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa. Known as "Las Mariposas" (The Butterflies), they resisted Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship and were assassinated in 1960.
