Exploring the great microbial eukaryote diversity and evolution, one protist at a time. I’m fascinated by this question: how have #plastids evolved? #ProtistsOnSky | Associate Prof at Uppsala University. My lab: https://www.burki-lab.net/
On the other hand I agree that the relationships themselves are more important than the naming, and this paper is amazing in many other ways. But citing highly relevant work is foundational to the process of science

I don't think that the argument that it was already under review holds very well, because it should be easy to change a name and add a ref until late in the process. In this case the paper was accepted nearly 3 months after the publication of Promethea, so this would have been possible imo

I however wonder why a new supergroup was erected (Disparia) when the existing supergroup Promethea precisely describes this grouping? Promethea was published here: www.cell.com/iscience/ful...

Yes I recently tried just that as an exercise in a phylogenetic course and confirm: it's not good

Somehow this paper isn't available to me, even via institutional access. Can someone send it to me?

It is a collaboration between my lab (Uppsala U) and the labs of @dudinlab.bsky.social (Geneva U) and @filiphusnik.bsky.social (OIST). More info and how to apply here:
