Yes, lack of novelty. Too much of the same things being published which I believe is caused by the publishing requirements for PhD students that make groups go for "safe" and easy papers instead of novelty and risk ....

Speaking as an editor, it is getting increasingly harder to motivate authors to review (almost nobody above the career stage of second year postdoc accepts review requests) and more and more manuscripts get submitted (with on average increasingly redundant content in my impression)

Well said - and just to add here: The use of AI to overcome language barriers will create new barriers between those using AI and those who refuse, ultimately forcing everyone to submit to the products of commercial companies if they want to survive in the landscape.

Zenodo is linked to CERN funding which may also be discontinued one day (but surely is more reliable for the next counple of decades than other institutions). Ensuring preservation across centuries might require chiseling the code in stone and storing the stone slabs in a gold plated ark ....
