Plant pathologist with an interest in microfungi on plants, lichens, lichenicolous fungi and aquatic hyphomycetes.
I think this part is infected with Erythricium aurantiacum. The fungus has digested all the algal cells first and has now replaced most of the lichen's fungal tissue with its own. I've never know this to cause galls though. So it probably isn't the whole story.

Was the structure of the salmon coloured parts any different to the rest?

Thanks @bitheolaidhe.bsky.social Will you be adding images of micro-features in the future? It's going to be impossible for anyone to verify these records without additional evidence.

Key findings:
• 42% loss of rough grassland, heath and wetland since 1930
• Pastures and meadows reduced by 29%
• Arable land up by one third by 1990
• Urban areas rose from 13% to 20%

A fresh perspective on how our landscapes changed over 90 years

Maps created by 1960s schoolchildren provide new insights into habitat losses
A new study of 1960s maps, many of which were created by young people, has provided important fresh evidence of the timing and extent of habitat losses caused by agricultural intensification and urban...

A basal extension is an extra piece remaining on the end of a conidium. This has broken off from the conidiophore and remained attached to the spore. @jandbio.bsky.social am I right with these two terms?

I don't know of a glossary of terms for #AquaticHyphomycetes but a detachment scar is where the conidia broke away from its conidiophore - the hypha it grew on. Often this point looks like a darker piece of wall because of the way the light catches on it.

Difficult but often fun! You've got what is probably the best ID guide there. Source: AscoFrance share.google/UdN8UtxHxGd9...

3m is more than enough for me. Anything that fits in a pannier would probably fit in my small backpack. I'd like something thick enough to attach a tea strainer to though. That's what I can't find.

Please tell me if you find a good telescopic stick. I've been looking for one for a while.

Looking good! You'd do well with a tea strainer on the end of a long stick. Just like the one I keep in my car!

The group I've offered to facilitate is not part of @britmycolsoc.org.uk although the BMS are kindly supporting next year's in person course on #AquaticHyphomycete identification skills. There is no need to be a BMS member to take part in either learning experience.

We'll be welcoming new members from Italy, Germany and Norway, as well as more members from the UK. So many people keen to talk about #AquaticHyphomycete species. @funaction.bsky.social @isabelrfernandes.bsky.social @jandbio.bsky.social @funganaught.bsky.social @britmycolsoc.org.uk
