time spent #painting, watching them take shape, meditating on a finished product and how it made me feel (better)—it was around this time it crystallized:

viewing, making and sharing #art needed to be a regular part of life again, so i made this account both to facilitate and document the trip
progress photos of one of the last paintings I did in the Freeform app before buying one that could do more and crash less. 5 portrait-oriented panels arranged horizontally depict the stages of development in a landscape scene, strangely colored as if the artist is just starting out again and doesn’t know what he is doing. Red brown mountains in the distance, a yellow moon and starry black sky, green pine trees in the middle of foreground lit with golden auras around their edges in the light of the moon, and a deep blue lake reflecting the mountains and full moon (but for some reason not the trees, stars or black color of the sky). It’s weird and not quite right and I had a wonderful time making it.

had a similar idea once, and find it interesting we both ended up with stylized, wide heart-shapes in the composition

A sepia-toned photograph somewhat evocative of a medical diagram in a 19th century text. The image is that of a dead north american housefly rendered in near monotone, against a parchment-textured background; but the image has been run through a Mirror filter, so that only parts of the insect are legible—despite it being perfectly symmetrical as a result of the mirroring. Structurally, the fly-construct occupies the shape of a top-heavy cross, or plus sign. The blossoming top of the cross is formed by two wing shapes converging into a stylized heart. Because of the veins within the fly’s wings, additional fractal hearts are formed where the wings and their veins come together at the center. The edges of the wings appear frayed, like petals or fabric. The long middle of the cross is formed by the fly’s body and two additional thin wings. The wings are thin because we see them in profile, slicing the air at 90° angles on either side of the thick, dark symmetrical body. This stylized fly’s body takes the shape of an abstract house or thatched roof hut. At the center of this dark shape are three lighter features, a wide light rectangle containing a lighter inner area, suggestive of a single cyclopean eye. Under this eye-like window, two other light, tented lines suggest parts of a nose or mouth. Taken together the middle and top of the cross evoke the shape of an abstract alien face, surrounded by a dramatic and symmetrical wing-themed headdress. The bottom of the cross is short and minimal, formed by a small pendulum-like shape dangling from the fly’s body (the mirrored inward curve of its legs), and a floating disconnected claw-like dot directly underneath. This suggests parts of the fly’s feet were pulled into the mirroring and left floating in space, ‘connected’ but unmoored.
