The layout transition animations and even the boxes for each selection are almost identical to many of the US DVDs from around that time, so that's why I think so.
The next question I have is "Why?" This is not the first DVD to release in the UK so why copy it from the US menu? Preference in design?

You'll also notice the omnipresent PBS Kids logo in the bottom left corner of every DVD menu. This is consistent with all DVD releases in the US, and makes me believe that PBS had some sort of mandate for these DVDs.

The other notable change is in the special features. The UK version has an extra option, "Come and See Animal Fun". It's basically just more animal TV Events.
The US Version includes a small documentary in "Information for Adults", where the "Other Titles" option now lives as "Video Previews".

The actual design is basically identical between regions. Minor changes are made to the names of menu selections and the US version has a separate menu for Language options while the UK version has the subtitles option on the main menu.
All US DVDs feature the US Dub and the UK Dub (named Canadian).

In doing that big thread about fonts, looking at Baby Animals/Animals Big and Small reminded me about how bizarre it actually is.
For this I'm mostly talking about the DVD menu/bonus content on the DVD.
For starters this is the only DVD to feature the same menus in the UK and US with slight changes.

The one I'm still currently looking for a precise lead for is the font used in the first UK release of Here come the Teletubbies and Dance with the Teletubbies.
Personally I think some variant of Woodrow is the closest guess, but there are so many differences that I can't put a pin in that.

As for some of the favorite things, the giant e is clearly inspired by VAG Rounded, but has slight differences cause, ya know, it's handmade.
The giant 4 is of an unknown font, possibly just made on the fly, thus not having a font associated with it.

I take that last bit back, Helvetica Hebrew is used in all of the US DVDs for the subtitle options.
November 16, 2024 at 6:13 PM
One DVD that is the most inconsistent with the rest is Animals Big and Small/Baby Animals.
VAG Rounded is used a lot but moreso Helvetica Hebrew (for the subtitles text) and Helvetica Rounded (for most of the menu options). On this DVD, if it's clearly not VAG Rounded it's Helvetica.
Weird.

The one that I went on a goose chase for is for the end credit fonts. After some extensive digging, I can almost definitively say that the font used is called Arial Nova. Regular on the titles, and bold for the names. The rightmost image is a recreation I did in Word.
