Didn't find any of the books I was actually looking for at Half Price Books, but did find the first 2 Kingdom of Souls books by Rena Barron in hardcover, so that's a huge win!

This. I am expressing myself, entertaining myself, and inviting the reader to converse with the art.
But I can't plan the outcome of it any more than any other conversation. Each person has too unique of perceptions, biases, interests, delights, etc. to anticipate.
Art goes out, and my part ends.

I'm not even sure engaging or entertaining others is a wholly sustainable goal in this field, always found just doing these things for myself leads to output other ppl are interested in, but the whole i do this to be changing hearts and minds thing is definitely a road to unhappiness

So I hate billionaires as much as the next person, but while you're boycotting places like Amazon, please keep in mind that a lot of indie authors publish through it and by writing it off, you're in a way dooming them and their hard work

That "aspiring" you have before writer/author? Get rid of it. Take it out. Delete it. You're not an aspiring writer, you're a writer. Even if you're currently an unpublished author.

For folks in the US, I can't emphasize enough how important it is to support queer art over the next few years. Project 2025 seeks to label queer art pornographic and those who make or distribute it pornographers and sex offenders. We can't roll over and accept that. Queer art will live forever.
