I'm a 31 year old programmer, I like video games, I want to play more, and even make them some day.

I was not expecting something so Fancy! It made me laugh, nice work!

Speaking to the void a bit here. Or maybe to my future self. I'm not sure. Either way if anyone other than me, myself, and I read this then give jj a try if you have some technical know-how. I think there's even some gui apps for it too if you're so inclined.

There's still a lot to learn, practically a whole new language just for searching through the log, how to split and combine commits, moving them where you want, etc. But I could see myself reaching and preferring it for my own projects, and even just using it in general in place of git because I can

I won't go on about all the features and negatives to it though, the documentation makes its own compelling arguments. But what I will say is that it's really easy to just plug and play with existing git repos to get a feel for it, since it uses a git repo as the backend system (for now)

In git, this is done by rebasing, or amending, or shuffling commits around in any number of ways. In jj, this is really more the default. It amends by default. It rebases pretty much by default (Branches automatically rebase! Conflicts aren't a show stopper!). The more I use it the more I like it.

I can only speak about its use from a programmer perspective. I haven't tried it with assets or anything other than code. But it feels like it lets me move around how I want to move around in git. I like having a clear history that I've crafted to be easy to search through and find what I want.

I have to! I'll try and force myself to get into a game jam and keep that scope small haha

I've heard this advice before and I really need to follow it. I've started and stopped on so many "big game ideas" because obviously they're too big and I get bogged down in the details and lose interest

What a strange idea! But honestly that's really funny, I feel bad for whoever was affected by those staples... But that's a nice outcome and it'll be a great story in the long run

Those days happen far too often for me... Hope you feel more motivated next weekend!

I just started playing through Old Skies! I'll be on the lookout for this Easter egg...

The process of purposely designing each part of a game is endlessly fascinating to me. I love knowing that a developer intentionally did things because that was their vision for the game. AI puts such distaste in my mouth I'd rather skip a game entirely than ignore the "boring" bits

What a fun solution, it's like an easter egg for a bug! Was this ever patched or is it still there to this day?

Sorry I thought it was a starter pack but I think I just saw your cozy town post on the discover feed actually!

Hi I'm one of them! I followed an indie game studio starter pack

So cute! They're so small! I love the little pixel art
July 12, 2025 at 9:04 PM
This makes me beyond sad. Everything could be so much better but it's designed to be on the verge of painful to use
July 12, 2025 at 6:41 PM
My brain dies whenever I hit the graphics part...

I love how he looks!
July 12, 2025 at 5:53 PM
So mysterious... Looks really cool!
July 12, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Looks very cute! This makes me really want to get into colony sim games
July 12, 2025 at 5:36 PM
That's a crazy cool feature, I always love seeing fun ways to communicate in games, like that Moon game with the text to speech or there was a game where you could throw speech bubbles like grenades
