The evidence is clear. Countries with proportional representation have lower polarization, more stability, and more real choice. Cooperation becomes normal instead of rare. 9/10

People see what is happening elsewhere. In the US, winner take all voting has pushed polarization to dangerous levels. British Columbians do not want to go down that road. Seventy nine percent say legislators should act to reduce division. 8/10

The last election showed the problem. When BC United collapsed, voters were left with a two party race and a more polarized campaign. Sixty seven percent say a two party system is bad for BC democracy. 7/10

New EKOS polling backs that up. Sixty five percent of British Columbians agree seats should reflect the popular vote. Support jumps to 75 percent when asked about proportionality by region. 4/10

Public input was overwhelming. This year, 93 percent of submissions to the Committee called for proportional representation. Only 2 percent wanted to keep first-past-the-post. 3/10

The Committee says changing the voting system is a major democratic decision and needs deeper engagement.
