In my top 5 Scorsese, and absolutely one of De Niro's greatest performances. taken for granted because of how unflashy it is but he is truly amazing in that movie

🧵 We are, in fact, doing the thing again for @onesimplewish.bsky.social. In 2024, the kind people of this community put the money cannon on blast to help grant $75K in wishes for children in foster care. Toys, tech, a suit for job interviews. Here we go again! 👇

I wrote flat-out today for hours, started at around 9 am, finished around 6 pm, with a short break for lunch. I've never written like that before, not that I can remember. My wife and I are now unwinding by making fun of people on TV.

"house-grated" is a pretty funny brag
This is a real thing at Del Taco. I can remember eating like a king for $3 at Taco Bell.

This dinner of trout and apple/walnut salad was very good and wholesome. I was going to say that I finally ate a meal with no cheese in it, but then I remember the salad has goat cheese in it. So the streak continues.

Available for the first time in a loooong time. I have a strong interest in both Burgess and Joyce. So why don't I care about this?

How far back in time in America could you go before society was unnavigable? Like, if I woke up in 1925, I feel reasonably confident I could figure my way around — I wouldn't love it, but I could figure out how to interact with the world. But how much earlier than that? Could I handle 1825? 1725?

Kathryn and I don't do a lot of entertaining these days, but even so I should probably remove this from the coffee table.

I've said it before, but this is one of those very rare cases where the trailer promised the world, which the film then delivered.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.
