I think it’s incredibly difficult for parents. And unless groups of parents in schools/communities band together to limit children’s access to phones & social media, monitor gaming etc, the pressure on kids and then parents to be online with all their friends is extremely difficult to withstand.

Kids are less exposed to traditional tv and books with more empathetic social norms than before. Many parents are too busy working, too stressed and on their own devices too much to counteract or even be aware of the influences their kids are exposed to.

As a teacher of 9 - 13 year olds, it is obvious at that age which students have empathy and which don’t. Boys especially spend many hours on YouTube and online gaming, exposed to a lot of racist, sexist, bragging content. I think those with less developed empathy are pulled to far right content.
