Me: spend years hoping work would let us install the current macOS release.
Monkeypaw: uncurls...
Work: OK.

Apple has published a page with the best third party #liquidGlass apps.

Despite biasing the compare (static for iOS 18, animated for iOS 26), I can't say any of the after are actually better, and many had to employ hack to be not completely awful.

Did @panic really use Zelda's Trifoce as the icon for the LINKed files feature?

Not sure that's great UI, but definitely makes me smile!

Should have been obvious agile became a (cargo) cult when they started calling meetings "ceremonies"…

Scariest thing by far while trick or treating?
Almost all houses had Ring camera doorbell.

Did I need to buy that hundredth live Springsteen album?
No, but it's about the price of a pack of cigarettes, much healthier and brings me rare confort.

(and this one has a different version of a song I like)

Remember to use social media clients that support filtering.
My timeline just got a lot healthier.

@harrytrimble.bsky.social please don’t use continually changing colours for the full area of your slides background. It’s distracting for everybody and for people like me with vestibular disorders it makes us physically sick. I had to look at my shoes for the entirety of your talk…

Stuff magazine tips for how to make the most of iOS 26.

Number one tip: disable #LiquidGlass by enabling accessibility options.

With a painful but accurate reference to Windows Vista.

No, it won't be just usability experts like me complaining.

Brace, brace.

Finally knowing what Hergé made the Indian character say in Tintin in Tibet, thanks to worldlens (now built into Google translate).
15 year later this still feels like sorcery.

I still can't believe Apple will force this shit #liquidGlass onto millions of unsuspecting users in a few weeks.

They didn't think different part of a photo could have different colours, so the info and the center and all the controls at the top right are unreadable.

AI is inherently minority hostile:

Got a text message with a code from GOV.UK. The message is in both English and Welsh.

The Apple Intelligence summary only provides the English summary.

(I highly doubt it was clever enough to see welsh, understand it as the same message and ignore it).

Looks like the iPad OS last beta forcefully reenabled Apple "intelligence".

Good: picked up my trips accross the Channel sea from my email.

Very bad: incorrectly but confidently state it's by boat.

(LeShuttle is the under sea train service for vehicle)

Online meeting tools should not record the camera of anyone with their microphone muted. Observers, not speakers.

This looked like a great well illustrated article… but every image of a mac displays a full emulator, inline with the page. YOU CAN USE THE MACS on the page.
😮🤯😍
Well done @aresluna.org !

"As long as the understanding of our value […] is constrained… outputs, the work that creates impact will be the first to be dismissed as 'unnecessary'."

Nodded so hard and often reading this piece that my neck hurts.
AI saved the feature factory
When outputs are valued above all else, hallucinations and slop aren't bugs — they're features.

Basic "intelligence" feature I actually want:
if I'm creating a meeting titled "Fabien and Bob" and there is one Bob I always meet, my calendar should add Bob to the event.

The material software designers should study most is the humans.

Less "how does light propagate through glass", more "how do humans discern text".

As a user I want to see what I'm looking for less clearly so that I can see an unrecognisable version of what I'm not currently looking for through it…

Standard play cards are 5 century old. The ones I know are only used in France. The British banned their importation in 1628 to boost local production, but they weren't as skilled so they used a different simplified and uglier set.

Undercelebrated: the Airpods charging case. Completely mitigates for the small batteries in buds.

Protects, harder to loose, charges "automatically" everytime they go in the case, while on the go and away from power AND allow to continue listening while charging.

Absolutely core to AirPods.

Wondering if my Linked in feed being choke full of AI pushers might have something to do with its owner Microsoft standing to profit from AI use...

Massive conflict of interest right there.

It's absurd that Apple's translate app isn't available for Mac. They don't even allow the iPad app to run.
So many neglected aspect of macOS, tvOS etc that could get a lot better if they cared even a little…
