I think of Sam Nordquist often. He was a trans man who passed away early this year after being tortured for over a month. After losing contact with him, his family requested multiple wellness checks which the police refused to pursue in the months leading up to his death

Tis the “bioessentialism with a focus on hopelessness” I was talking about. They think being afab predetermines the entire course of their life and that transition does not exempt them from still being immutably women. It’s a defeatist cope to appease their own internalized transphobia while also simultaneously feeling guilty for being a man and angry anyone would want to acknowledge the (non-dis)advantages they have for being men. If anyone did it would crush everything they’ve built their purity complex on Obviously these guys would never call themselves male impersonators or whatever outright because it makes them dysphoric but it’s pretty obvious in the way they cling to being “afab” or calling trans men “men who experience misogyny” it’s an obvious downstream implication to anyone who actually believes trans men are men and trans women are women Also I chose to say sex fatalism specifically because I notice a lot of trans men lean really hard into being afab to distance themselves from manhood while still vying to be seen as men when it’s convenient for them. They can’t reconcile being a man with victimhood when their identity is built on their claim to biological purity. So being “afab” has to become a irrevocable stain on their lives they can never rid themselves from so they can either loath it or embrace it—or both
