Finished this #book 📚this week. A Poison Like No Other by Matt Simon documents in excruciating detail the extent of microplastics everywhere and their impact. A pretty painful read, but powerful and an important call to action. We will reduce fossil fuel use, but can we break our plastic addiction?

Yeah, except white-tailed deer are pretty small. I prefer this photo with a coyote for scale.

So weird. I’m doing that (I post a lot of pictures) but it’s not happening.

Here are two fun photos, though. Do you see the coyote in the left hand photo?

I enjoyed Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton so much… fiction is really buoying me these days. The premise was fun (crow main character in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse), and it was thought-provoking and deep as well as goofy at times. Highly recommend.

This is a few years old, but a good explanation. First in a series, it goes on my pollinator post in my front yard by the curb. #LeaveTheLeaves #HabitatGarden #Compost #LeafMold

I know I haven’t been talking #nativeplants lately, but… we had a seed cleaning this weekend, and it was so awesome. There will be lots of seeds for native plants available at seed swaps in November, December, and hopefully February.

When the mallard ducks do this on South Boulder Creek, I call it having a convention. They really like this little stretch and the the grassy bank, and so many times, I have seen a group of them resting on the bank with heads under wings. #birds

#birds This beautiful creature (great horned owl) has been visiting my yard at twilight a lot frequently… there are several pairs in the area, and I hear them calling to each other. This owl was surveying the surrounding yards, hopefully for cottontail rabbits (take them, please! We have plenty!)

More meditations… I am sad about events in my state, in the neighboring state. Leaf mold for the win. I was listening to Bill McKibben’s new book, Here Comes the Sun, sieving leaf mold (and picking my compost worms out) and repeating my favorite activist slogan: love not hate makes America great.

I know some bad shit has gone down today, so I’m going to share a little of what I think is an antidote. #nativeplants I go out and breathe with the plants and listen to the #birds every morning.

Butterfly on native clematis in my yard. I do and promote habitat gardening with native plants (including giving away seeds and plants and teaching others to do the same) to support insects, birds, and other wildlife.
