Also, I personally like to think the trolls have unique relationships with their homes beyond just the Loa. With the unique nature of the northern forests and their proximity to ley sources, I like to imagine the forest trolls’ moss might tie them to the land more literally maybe via magic symbiosis

To add to this, I personally feel like the moss, algae or fungi involved would host beneficial microbes for their troll counterpart, maybe helping improve their health, regeneration/recovery or even their resistance to illnesses

Not a lore thing, but speaking with some biology in mind, it could be like some sloths or crabs have with algae and mosses— a mutualistic symbiosis where the fur offers a favorable environment for both growth and some propagation advantages (traveling does that) and offering camouflage to the troll
