decided to make a more formal text post about my thoughts from earlier about the frankenstein film (with more wording and proper grammar). this film's definitely going to be in my mind for a while.
— slight spoilers for the film adaptation if you haven't seen it yet
reposted text post from the user's tumblr, about the 2025 'Frankenstein' film, that goes as follows: there’s so much to say, but i think the decision to make the creature immortal is really intriguing to me. the creature's story and victor’s parallel to prometheus and his punishment for bringing life and humanity to beings that cannot die, and how that’s mirrored onto the creature as much as the creator. beyond victor’s longing to cheat death and to possess the eternal, the horror comes not only in the fact alone that he can do it but in that he got exactly what he wanted. something that can succeed pain and suffering physically, but in doing so suffers all the more in ways it cannot mend alone. and that frustration the creature feels (in the film) is not on the fact that victor possesses what the creature can’t, but in not being understood or accepted in victor’s mind as more than what he simply is — a thinking feeling thing. and in his denial of seeing life in him, he denies it everywhere else; in himself and his peers, as well as in elizabeth as a thinking woman, one whose heart he finds himself frustrated in not being able to possess. not to mention the dead and dying that he used in his research, whose bodies were tore into and pillaged to amalgamate into a living being — that, even as a collective, can not be recognized as a man. [...] rather than leaving the fate of the creature without closure and with things left unsaid, there's at least a moment between them where they can talk as people, and for victor to recognize what he really achieved — in asking for forgiveness both for what he did to the creature, but also for the loathing the creature feels for himself, knowing that that came victor as well. [...] even while the creature was something created to succeed death as a natural part of life, it possess the ability to do what victor was unable to do, which is to live and find worth to life while it is still there, and even long after it is gone.

IT’S HERE!!!! this book houses SO much wonderful art and designs down to the smallest detail and is genuinely such an phenomenal work in its own right. definitely one of my favorite art books i own so far and makes me all the more excited to watch frankenstein <3 :,)
