That "no romantic-sexual kissing" also seems to be a bit of a non-sequitur given other kinds of kissing exist and are even common among non-family in some cultures.

Anyway, I tracked down that other article because I was curious what it studied (TLDR: they didn't look at other kinds of kissing).
American Anthropologist | AAA Anthropology Journal | Wiley Online Library
Scholars from a wide range of human social and behavioral sciences have become interested in the romantic–sexual kiss. This research, and its public dissemination, often includes statements about the....

I guess Graham Platner no longer has anything to worry about. 🙄

Lots of academic interchange between Buddhists and Hindus of that era as they each tried to diminish the other religion.

On the note of other oddities, "billion" in Spanish is the same number as "trillion" in English. Spanish has a "thousand million" and it shifts the big number names up by one.

These make me so glad @1password.bsky.social manages these for me with random words (though it really confuses the handful of companies that use the same kind of verification over the phone).

Hopefully not. They needed the Buddhists to figure out zero.

Not to mention, I haven't seen any mention of counting in multiples of crore and lakh.

Being self-cleaning, I assume we could get by with 2 instead of the 3 litter boxes we currently have for our 4 cats, but these also get quite expensive multiple cats. Too many of the off-brand ones have killed cats, so it's not something you want to skimp on with the generic.

Excellent show but wow, I think Prime may have walked back more than a bit on their promise that they would have fewer ads than comparable services. They're definitely leaning in hard on using this to annoy people into paying extra to remove them.

For anyone with a multi-color printer (or who wants to put in a bit of work swapping filament), here are a couple great models for Seattle and Chicago area:

Around/under $0.15 each to print, and VERY loud.

Especially since … aren't you a cyborg?

(Even if the whole "know what your blood sugar probably is" isn't much of a cyborg ability.)

Yeah. Even with his large staff (almost 40?) helping, he still manages to do all of that writing, teach a class or two, and spent who knows how much time playing MTG and by all accounts being a good dad.

I really can't think of any other authors who just go … oops, I accidentally wrote 3 new books.
November 18, 2025 at 10:38 PM
Yeah, but there are now 6 books in that trilogy … and another 6 planned. IIRC it was originally supposed to be 3 trilogies spanning "classic fantasy era," like 20th century era, and "classic sci-fi era," but Sanderson sort of accidentally wrote Alloy of Law and that turned into its own series.

Still needs an option for "I just like Roy Underhill" (or Bob Ross, for those into 2d crafts).

It's a big universe. If you haven't already read a bunch of other Cosmere books, you might want to look for a recommended reading order to avoid spoilers for other books (and provide context to later Stormlight books). Mistborn series, Warbreaker, Elantris, Emperor's Soul all tie in somewhat.

Yeah. Apparently I made things just big enough that arachne was kicking in and I didn't see any difference with/without the narrow extrusion settings. And now to fulfill my mom's order (a bit over 15 hours for 55 at a time).

Someone really needs to look into what's behind this whole Big Lie that the Democrats have shifted to the left on anything except a handful of social issues (important ones, but it seems the DNC acceptance of LGBTQ+ rights is more performative than because they actually care).
November 18, 2025 at 7:17 PM
It took awhile to get around to this but here's my remix for the Seattle area. There's a link in the description to the different font that I used, and it doesn't seem to need adjustments to extrusion width.

55 at a time on my Prusa XL, soon distributed around the Tacoma area.

Even better with two kittens. Except ours are now 13 and 15 lbs of solid muscle and they still like to hold tightly with very sharp claws.

I’m partial to butter and lemon with a bit of sugar, but my fav is probably still the apple sauce and maple syrup I learned from my college roommate’s not-a-hippie (they were too organized) dad.

The "algorithm" is whatever you make it. The "following" feed is just a timeline of the most recent posts/comments from people you follow. You follow way too many people for that to be useful. Instead, sort people into lists and pin those to your favorites.

That'd be a really long throw. But you're in France now so you really should make some proper crêpes. 😉

A friend of mine is an animal caretaker in a gov research lab like that. I imagine that he'd have an aneurysm if he had to watch that scene while trying to suspend disbelief about that whole scene.

It's fascinating how it's both a hoax that should be ignored, and damning to Democrats (and apparently huge banks).

... sort of like how COVID was a dangerous biological weapon leaked from a lab and also "just a cold."
