Stein had to advocate for this book for over a decade as other writers (mostly men) received historic acclaim for treading similar ground to what Stein had already covered, artistically, but had been unable to publish.

An incredibly rich, interior sort of book. Quiet and somewhat stylish in its prose, but almost vertigo-inducing in the depth of its main characters
