We were hosting the friends we didn't see on Thursday for the game yesterday, and as spouse and I were prepping, I said: "You are aware that the Birds are probably going to lose this game, right?" His response: "I know."

So I think maybe this is our fault?

Also, too, if you have a @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social card, you can get free access to the online version, for those few times an article comes up you'd actually like to read.

We spatchcocked last year for the first time, and it was a WINNER. Brined the bird first. The spatchcocked version cooked in (relatively) no time at all, and the white meat actually stayed edible. (I mean, I still chose the dark, of course, but the white was juicy. JUICY! What a concept!)

Only possible explanation for this.

Hey, and it turns out, a data center in MontCo wants to use the Potomac for cooling, too! I'm sure there's *nothing* to worry about here!

wamu.org/story/25/11/...
Proposed Montgomery County data center would use Potomac River water for cooling
The data center would be located at the old Dickerson coal-fired power plant site. Residents, state officials, and local environmental groups are weighing what it will mean for the area.

Baldwin is, as usual, 100% on point.

The Blacksonian does a terrific job of curation & telling the stories behind exhibits. Among the BEST examples is explaining how chattel slavery developed, in part, to break burgeoning cross-racial class solidarity among impoverished laborers in the colonies.

What are we missing? Do we just need to back off and spend more time at the "look don't touch stage"? Give me all your best multi-cat advice and experience....

We've have Feliway diffusers on each floor of our row house. We've built a floor to ceiling fence that divides the house in half where they can see each other but not touch. We're feeding them both at regular times just on either side of the fence. We're space-swapping every 24 hours.

Then she does what she no doubt learned having to protect her tiny self and her kittens in the wild - she makes herself as BIG as possible and hisses back. Predictably, he freaks out.

Here's where we are now:

Our big boy is a big chicken, so he hisses and growls. The new little girl was in a feral colony, had multiple litters of kittens, and was then fostered in a house with 16 (!!) other cats for a few months. She mostly ignores his agitation, at least initially, until she gets fed up.
