More mica caps popping off in the wine barrel planter. Should I try to cultivate them? For soup and such? 🤗🍄📷 #mycology

Shaggy mane LC started yesterday, looks promising! Another 48h before i can say if it is clean or contaminated. 🍄📷🧫🔬 #growyourown #mycelium #mycology

Also it turns out the agar featured on the photo was the most contaminated one 😆 so your intuition was correct!

Second gen are looking good, and I started the LC from that yesterday. Will know if it’s clean in a day or two, so far so good!

I may try both, but already took the sample from our wine barrel planters where it’s growing, so I may focus on growing indoors first. LC > grain spawn > substrate > fruiting chamber

I made a mushroom fruiting chamber a few years back that l I’ll reuse.

So I’ll try to cultivate the shaggy manes. First mycelium agar looks quite clean and robust! 🍄📷🧫

Cooking was very quick in the pan. When I flip them I pour in a bit of water and put the lid on to steam it a bit as well.

For the dough I used 450g type 80 flour and 280ml boiling water, 50ml olive oil
November 16, 2025 at 1:36 AM
I used fermented carrots and cabbage, tofu, ginger, shaggy mane and spinach for the filling 🍄📷

So @grassflu.bsky.social inspired me to try making gözleme 🙏
I did a vegan version with tofu and shaggy mane mushrooms that I’ve been picking off our wine barrel planters 😄 Turned out so good!

Make sure you really have a shaggy mane first! Though easy to identify they have some lookalikes.

Typically you want to pick it before the edges turn black. I halve them, drizzle oil and salt and satay them in a pan and make sure they’re thoroughly cooked.

Coincidentally I just had some for dinner yum!

Finally, great crumb! It’s been a long process to figure out the proofing and baking for this type 80, 90% hydration sourdough 😮‍💨🍞

Past its prime, but still a head turner! Stains blue and probably oak loving bolete. #fungifriends

Carefully take out of the pan and flip on the plate. This is a bit tricky - best approached from the cap side, using fish spatula.

The stem is crunchy and the cap is has soft buttery texture. Strong bright mushroom aroma.

Once browned, add a bit of of water and cover until water evaporates
November 3, 2025 at 12:06 AM
Toss in the pan on medium heat, minimal to no oil, let it brown.
November 3, 2025 at 12:06 AM
Halve them, sprinkle with salt and add a dash of olive oil

The shaggy mane cluster keeps on giving! 🧵for recipe! #fungifriends #cooking
