Hypervigilance
People-pleasing
Emotional numbness
Anger that kept you up at night

They're not moral failures but adaptations to help you survive.

Healing doesn't begin by shaming those parts of yourself, but by thanking them for getting you through the tough times

-Tightness
-Relief
-Exhaustion
-A sudden breath of freedom

Before you deconstructed, did your body sense that something wasn’t right?

What was that experience?

But the images of God we cling to aren’t God.

They’re scaffolding that helps us survive until we can face the world without them.

Letting an image of God die makes room for a Mystery far more spacious than previously known.

But mystics know that the Divine meets you in the middle of life.

In the...

-confusion

Spirituality isn't about escaping and ascending into God.

It's about sinking into the Depth of the moment.

And the easiest way to control people is to spiritualize fear

-fear of doubt
-fear of desire
-fear of asking the wrong questions

But fear has never made anyone holy.

If you want to become holy, embody compassion, acceptance, and grace

Yes, shared beliefs will help form groups.

But love that is embodied, practiced, and lived forms people into something deeper...

A community that can hold difference without fear.

It’s actually the collapse of fear.

When the fear goes, so do the doctrines that were built on it.

What emerges?

Not cynicism, but clarity.

A clarity about what you truly believe and what you do not.

Thus, authenticity is born.

Christianity’s answer to that question altered nations, theology, and the world we inherited.

You’re not rebellious for choosing human dignity over dominance.

You’re not obligated to defend a faith that has constrained you.

Sometimes the holiest thing you can do is to say, “I deserve better than this,” and then go find it.

Get this:

-Mainline clergy = largely left of center.
-Mainline members = more mixed, often slightly right of center.

Is that a scandal? A failure? A warning sign?

I spent a Substack Live session exploring another possibility entirely.

Check out the replay here.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮?

For some it's about...

-inner peace
-divine comfort
-invigorating experience

But if that's all it is, it's extremely shallow.

Spirituality that floats above the suffering of others is little more than self-absorbed escapism with a halo on it.
