Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin' glue.
3/ also a molecular test comparable to PCR. I think it's great that you're testing at all, and I hope this info is useful to you & others who see your posts. I'll add that if ppl are relying only on RATs, they should test for multiple days in a row to improve chances of C19 showing on the test.

2/ you feel unwell. If you're outside the US, you may have access to PlusLife (from German co. Altruan), which is a molecular testing system w/accuracy comparable to a PCR. The reader is expensive, but the individual tests are pretty cheap. I'm in the US & can only get Metrix (co. is Aptitude),⬇️

1/ First, kudos to you for testing at all- BUT... Rapid antigen tests (like in your pic) only catch 35-40% of active infections. Unless you consistently wear respirators around others, you've likely had covid multiple times. Also, abt ½ of C19 infections are asymptomatic- you prob don't test unless⬇️

Unfortunately, the vast majority believe it's no longer a problem, but the science is clear: even mild covid infections (& yes, in vaxxed ppl too) continue to damage our hearts, brains, kidneys, immune systems, etc. Well-fitting N95 type masks work (when you wear them). I'm sorry about your uncle.
December 19, 2025 at 7:12 PM
And still going on. I wish ppl knew
-vaccines/previous C19 illness don't prevent infection
-abt ½ of covid infections are asymptomatic (but still contagious)
-even mild/asymptomatic cases can damage the heart, brain, kidneys, immune system, etc.
-rapid tests only detect ~40% of active infections

Here's an unrelated gif of a man spraying someone who's lawlessly disrespecting other people's rights with a fire extinguisher.

Wondered abt pre-C19 rates, searched 2019 & found this. Burnout's not just a symptom but a driver of probs re approach to covid, imo:

-"The AMA's data shows that 45% of doctors reported burnout in 2011 — and that ticked up to over 50% of doctors in 2014..."
www.businessinsider.com/doctor-burno...
Doctor burnout hits an all-time high with 79% of primary care physicians suffering from workplace stress
Burnout in the medical field has remained at dangerously high levels over the last six years — and 2019 is exhibiting the worst numbers so far.

I'm so sorry you're both going through this. 💙

Exactly. And it's probably going to be you who has to take care of anyone else in your family who gets sick, so you're also saving yourself extra trouble by preventing spread.

Nice alt text description, btw

This is what I always think about visual artists, too.

3/ And to be clear, there is value in getting the covid vaccines, and I think those who are able should get them.
December 10, 2025 at 8:30 PM
2/ The only reliable way to prevent long-term damage from covid is to not catch it in the first place, in which case well fitted, high quality masks are superior to vaccines. Covid vaccines SOMEWHAT reduce infection chances for a short time, but at no point do you have full protection.
December 10, 2025 at 8:28 PM
1/ Neither covid nor flu vaccines provide sterilizing immunity, ie, you can still get infected. These vaccines reduce risk of severe disease during acute phase, but studies cont. to show that even vaxxed ppl are sustaining damage from covid (& prob flu, but I've not looked at flu studies on this).
December 10, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Amen. And even otherwise-intelligent and well meaning ppl- incl many HCWs & scientists- have bought into the "vax & relax" fallacy, despite the science showing that covid CONTINUES to do long-term damage to our brains, hearts, kidneys, etc., AND our immune systems, which explains a lot. Mask up!!!
December 9, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Good call. You may already use these, but N95-type respirators will give you better protection. The imp't thing is to have a good seal around all edges of the mask, shaping the nose wire to conform to the nose bridge. If you only have surgicals, there are videos on how to get a better fit w/them.

Per the CDC page on vaccine safety:

Who can report to VAERS:
-Patients
-Parents, guardians or other family members
-Caregivers
-Healthcare providers
-Vaccine manufacturers
-Anyone else

There are reasons to let anyone submit, but ppl need to understand there's often no evidence w/these claims.

Like these, maybe?

Why does my alt text keep disappearing?? Grrr. Dan Aykroyd, dressed in a filthy rented Santa suit, drunkenly swigging alcohol in a stairwell.

Cold/ room temp quiche/ tart is also a good egg dish for warm days, esp served with a simple salad.
