Happy Friday! Here are a few photos from my community garden outing last weekend, including a sassy blue jay, a curious chipmunk, a clouded sulfur butterfly sharing a zinnia with a honeybee, and some rather gorgeous dahlias! 🪶
A blue jay crouched dynamically in grass at the edge of woods and shrubs, itt's tail and head up, beak a little open. It's a smallish corvid with blue feathers overall, a white face and belly, black details around the face, eyes, and striping wing and tail feathers, and a pointy crest (currently flattened). An eastern chipmunk peering over the wooden support beam on a community garden fence, tiny front paws gripping it, whiskers catching the indirect sunlight. It's a small brown rodent with oval ears and white stripes above and below its eye. A clouded sulphur butterfly stands in the middle of a dark pink zinnia flower, proboscis rolled up, having just finished feeding; a western honeybee is just visible beside it. The small butterfly is a pale greenish-yellow with dark edging and a small dark spot on the upper wing, and a couple of lighter spots, plus one white spot, on the lower. It's eyes are large and pale green. A varied stand of dahlias of different heights, sizes and colors (pink, orange, and white in a variety of shades) growing around tall green-painted plant stakes.
