And anyone who has watched magistrates nod-along with prosecution evidence in the mags courts will know exactly what I mean.

Even in Corbett v Corbett, Ormrod LJ used 'she' for post-transition. Somehow, the judiciary was able to use our pronouns for decades without it creating any supposed appearance of bias, but now it routinely degenders and misgenders us. It's such transparent bigotry and/or cowardice.

Going to avoid it too, but largely because I was put through traumatising conversion therapy by the local NHS as a teen because they didn't know what to do with a trans teen. The idea that the UK is rigging this trial so the NHS can compel future children to go through the same thing is horrifying

I hope you manage to sleep soon and it doesn't throw you off too much.

Fittingly, the only reason I'm awake to like this is that I made the mistake of doing my usual exercise in the middle of hypomania, so my brain is still convinced that I'm invincible 12hrs later. Woooo

I think it could be political expediency or they've just deferred to their legal advice, but part of me wonders if it's also because Labour want to use this opportunity to test the arguments against exclusion so they know if they can get away with implementing the EHRC's guidance

As glad as I am that he's gone, I hope this doesn't lead to an attempt at forgiveness and new enthusiasm for YP in any spaces. I imagine it won't, but I'd like YP to remain the irrelevant containment cell for every vicious clique that has ruined the UK left for decades

I half-jokingly said to a friend in 2018 that institutional bigots were going convince themselves that Goodwin allows them to constrain GRCs to things like marriage and strip away everything else that existed at the time of Goodwin. I wish it'd stayed joke.

I always struggle to explain the UK variation of this because I know it likely sounds unhinged, including the fact that UK skeptics were critical to pioneering and popularising transphobic rhetoric here

I'm clueless so I'm confused as to why the conclusion Lady Hale reached in A v CC of West Yorkshire Police (2004) isn't still relevant to this? Specifically, that EUCJ case law confirms that we're to be treated as our 'reassigned' 'sexual identity'. Was that not retained? Or side-stepped somehow?

as bizarre as it is, i do too. doing something this ridiculous, convincing themselves that their betrayal is mature 5d chess, and using the media to mock anyone for noticing wouldn't exactly be new

an extremely 'my parents buy me one blazer for the school year' suit

i've never understood it either because they're always painfully tortured and unfunny. also see: 'Liebour' and 'local clowncil'

I'm not a lawyer (just an old Law undergrad, so I'm clueless), but I imagined it might fall within the MoA.

It's just that the evidence requirements seem increasingly difficult to obtain; the GRP takes ~5 months to look at an app; and their decisions aren't consistent

If it wouldn't impose, do you think the UK GRA counts as a "quick, transparent and accessible" procedure for the purposes of Art 8 (e.g. as mentioned recently in T.H v Czech Republic)?

I imagine it still counts but the UK GRA process is often demanding, slow, capricious, and opaque

sometimes i hate being attracted to men because feelings like this are contagious and now i have to live with them :(

Deb Cohen was so committed to 'rigour' that she shared a GC conspiracy theory about Ferring Pharma donating to the Lib Dems because their pro-trans policies would supposedly lead to increased GnRH (ant)agonist sales. It was always blatant and appalling

No matter how well-meaning parents are, they're still likely to lack a sufficiently deep understanding of a trans (or any minority) experience, are prone to parental projection, and have their own biases or needs that guide their behaviour. I know it feels insulting but it, sadly, happens a lot

I appreciate you're dealing with a lot of intense and/or hostile feelings being directed at you but, as hard as it might be to believe: yes, I think trans strangers often do have a better understanding. Even my very loving and supportive mum would've been less reliable than other trans people

I hope your fully-body poppy costume. is ready for getting off the plane.

My partner already has a skill on almost all essentials lists and I'm spending the next few years requalifying to get out of here. Can't wait

Thank you for being there to report on it too

Thank you, I'd like to be clear that I greatly appreciate AM and otherwise deeply value the writing of US-based people. I just don't think this type of editorialising comment is helpful unless you're very confident about your knowledge of the wider context
