He reached for his pouch and pulled out a pistol-like weapon with a large barrel. He slammed it shut, took aim and paused. When another shot from up on the ridge rang out and struck the vampire through the chest, Murphy fired.

Instead the vampire’s cheek and teeth blew out from within. But even that did little more than slow it down. Left with one round, Murphy took a gamble.

This led the men to renew their fire and fortunately Sergeant Ryan’s team from below came up to join in the fray. The vampire was being assaulted from three directions, but he was still standing.
