❌ WOODEN SPOON

Our anti-award for 2025 is the weaponisation of violence against women to promote racist, anti-migrant agendas.

Thank you to @selmataha8.bsky.social @sbsisters.bsky.social for speaking about this issue tonight.

We urge journalists to expose and reject this whenever it arises.

📣 Our mission still drives us today, as men’s violence evolves and adapts to our online world and we’re faced with new challenges. We believe a different world is possible, we continue in our mission to end violence against women and girls for good.

🗣️ When we came together 20 years ago, we were clear on our goal: to end violence against women and girls in all its forms. Together, we’ve shaped law and policy, influenced culture change and remained focused on uplifting marginalised voices.

✏️We asked some of our founding members, experts, survivors, academics and key figures in our cause to contribute, reflecting on the gains made in the last 20 years, and where we’re heading next.

An online world where women and girls are safe and free to express themselves is better for everyone.

We urge tech companies to take this guidance seriously and implement its recommendations.

The government CAN and MUST choose to make it mandatory.
November 25, 2025 at 12:57 PM
Ofcom will not report on the progress that has or hasn’t been made as a result of this guidance until summer 2027.

In that time, many thousands more women and girls will experience preventable harm online while we wait for tech platforms to choose whether or not to do this work.

With our friends at Glitch, we successfully campaigned for this guidance. Its introduction is a positive step forward for our rights and freedoms online.

However until it is made a mandatory Code of Practice with consequences for non-compliance, tech platforms won't take it seriously.
