Totally agree, and that’s a great article. I find the nuances with the “dependencies” parameter a little frustrating. I’m sure there are reasons but the design feels like it could be more intuitive.

I don't write much frontend stuff these days, so my brain is also mush when it comes to this stuff!

Maybe this example helps? Even still, it can be hard to reason about state management and get tangled up. TLDR; run a function in response to some managed state being changed.
