That world is one where all of the niceties of the old world are gone, and the whole society is regimented by "economic efficiency". He wins because the ruined government runs out of budget to chase him and stops caring.

We would have a hard time making sense of events if they were recited as stories, reliving THX's confused existence and panicked effort to flee the city. Yet, if we think about the alienation of the society we live in and compare to alienation in that world, it makes perfect sense.

Maybe I'm putting words into the mouth of George Lucas, but he was noted as saying that THX 1138 was produced with this is mind, rather than "telling a story", because the story of THX 1138 is a disjointed mess that only makes sense because of the images the visuals provoke.

The point isn't that we're supposed to believe Luke's story is literary genius and compelling fiction. Lucas instead wants us to be able to think, for a moment, of what Luke and the rest would see and experience. The story is a useful backdrop for context, and not useful as an allegory of history.

The actress is preparing for her next gig. I get the feeling they're slowly (after killing as many people as they can) getting the public ready for this new Ingsoc thing.

There is a whole game played where the "real sex" happens, the stuff that is actually pleasurable, while the majority of men are told they have to beg and scrape for what they know to be nothing. Those who have the real sex always knew the game and all of the tricks.

The other thing is that very often female wives of homosexuals weren't "surprised" or "lied to" about this. They either knew and didn't care or, more often, actively encouraged this behavior. There is nothing about homosexuality that makes a male "essentially damaged" as the insinuation goes.

The extreme focus on insinuation and taboo is an exclusively Galtonite thing, which Francis Galton exhorts his followers to do. Reasonable adults are not that ignorant about what homosexuals do, since there was enough evidence of their behavior throughout history.

This strange focus on essentialism is a modern thing, and it is tied most of all to eugenics and the very malevolent behaviors that sodomy entailed. This strange narrative is promoted by those who have said they want to normalize sodomy and make men gay to tell them they are permanent inferiors.

If you look at how sodomy laws were applied, they were almost always about homosexual rape or obviously malevolent behavior. Two guys sneaking off was almost always overlooked, and among the aristocracy it was an open secret they got away with.

Even this was never particularly innovative, and the main driver for innovation was the prospect of eliminating human beings, or finding ways to overwork and break human beings into accepting ever-worsening conditions while strengthening the hand of managers against revolt.

Indirectly, new machinery is pursued only because it screws over workers, and for that purpose. The really big period of "high innovation" came after capital was concentrated in monopolies and obsessed with social goals / imposing social order.

Capitalism is notoriously inefficient and un-innovative, going out of its way to destroy inventions and punish firms doing anything differently from the standard arrived at by collusion. You don't get any reward for being truly industrious. You get rewarded for screwing over workers more.

Nearly every labor-saving method is about rearranging the workspace, doing basic things that would have been done without profit as a motive. This is possible first because most people didn't work in factories until modernity, and second because electricity demanded things less wasteful.

Capitalism never really favored "innovation". The habit of science that allowed technological advance developed without the profit motive. It is the incentive of the capitalist to always seek ways to exploit and immiserate before the capitalist invests in a more productive machine.

Mostly the Marxists since the fall of the USSR but these things were always inherent in the Marxist method. I don't know why we're supposed to treat it like this received dogma beyond questioning. It becomes sickening, but then their biggest goal was destroying Christianity.

Everything they are calling "science" is statistical charlatanry of the foulest sort. This has been very violently imposed on us, always for the sake of Eugenics. When it fails, they just make up infinite statistics.
