Not exactly the same thing but the last example I can think of are the dragon quest slime controllers.

So kind of off topic but I think the sequel era really does need its own clone wars and rebels equivalent. They kind of tried with Resistance but it didnt really land like the others and it felt like they were going for a much looser and light hearted tone until right before it was canceled.
