agreed; one of the rare features I feel should be opted-in by default. thank you for checking things out on your side. I may do a test post or two to try to get to the bottom of this. the possibility that not manually blurring creates a difference between logged-in and logged-out users bothers me 😭

this did occur to me as the cause since 2 of the 3 unblurred posts have un-paywalled text, but there's another post with un-paywalled text and the image is properly blurred. maybe it didn't auto-blur because I didn't manually edit the thumbnail? which I do remember doing on the properly-blurred post

I did just run and mess with the thumbnails of any post I could find that was unblurred, so that may contribute BUT. IT OCCURS TO ME. I can only check my posts as myself or as a logged-out viewer, so is it possible that was... literally just logged-out-viewer mode I was seeing??
