You’re in denial if you really believe that. They’re already talking about reversing marriage rights.

The same as the number of gay, lesbian and bisexual kids.

I rest my case. lol

Canada’s doing just fine, and so is Western Europe and large swaths of the US.

Nobody’s indoctrinating anyone. We’re just giving kids space to make their own decisions about things.

That’s like a straight person saying, “You only think you like men. It’s because you had a weak father figure. You really just need a strong woman, and just haven’t met the right one yet.” Remember when people used to say things like that?

Not in my city’s LG+ community. Every older person in my circle is fine with whatever the kids want to call themselves. Let them build their own world. They have to live in it.

No, trans people are not screaming about conversion therapy. They just want to be allowed the same freedom to exist as gay folks and anyone else.

And yes, I know what conversion therapy looks like. Thankfully, it’s been discredited.

As European I notice the Word Socialism is misunderstood by Americans. You know we are social species.

Make that thousands of years. I told my kiddo about your comment, and she chuckled and said “look up the Vedas… oldest writings in the world talk about trans people”

The 50s. Exactly. The word gender wasn’t used to classify people until then, and as I pointed out in a different comment, 2-spirit folks go back hundreds of years before this. The papers were written in response to this, not to trigger anything other than acceptance.

I like the immediate context of your profile name… good idea!

Oh I’ll bet! There’s a street in Winnipeg like this and the traffic is horrendous. lol But it’s pretty!

Someone needs to do an animation of this

Wow! Pretty!

While that is the case for the older crowd, we don’t get to decide what the younger gen calls themselves. I’m sure older POC took issue with their kids calling each other the N-word too. Word usage changes. C’est la vie.

While there is nothing called “trans conversion therapy”, trans is certainly being framed as mental illness requiring treatment to convert to “normal” by a certain crowd. This is the same conversation that used to be routine surrounding gayness. Did u know 2-spirit predates human“gender” discussion?

I didn’t say I was straight, and neither is one of my kids. As a 60s baby, I know plenty about LGB history and words that were considered slurs in the past. But the fact is that queer as used by queer folk isn’t considered a slur by the current generation. Language evolves.
December 6, 2024 at 6:49 PM
Queer is just an umbrella term for the LGB+ according to my kids, and trans folks face the same discrimination LGB face for similar reasons. LGB used to be considered mentally ill and in need of conversion therapy too, and in some circles, still are. So to say they have nothing in common is false.

I’m opposed to corporate welfare and the Uber rich not paying at least the same tax rate as the well off, but that’s progressive policy. Sounds to me like you might not be as fiscally conservative as you think.

Wow… privatization sounds so efficient. /s

I mean, sitting on hold to switch your provider every time you see a lower price isn’t as “simple” as they describe, but now they’re spending tax $$ calling everyone every 90 days??

The history of the OC has been complex and political since its inception.

If the ROC is meddling in non-religious matters, then this decision can be justified. This man can disagree, but that doesn’t make the decision wrong.

Removing an invader’s church has nothing to do with whether or not a country is a democracy. Besides, I highly doubt that the church was just minding its own business if they’re being shuttered. Priests and intrigue have gone hand in hand for millennia.

I’ve had the same thing happen when I make a typo that resembles a link by attaching a word to a domain, like .ca, as in country.ca. Even when you remove the typo, the link stays unless deleted.
