With their permission, we have been asked to share the following about their twin girls who did not survive the flood. Hanna and Rebecca brought so much joy to us, to their big sister Harper, and to so many others. We will find ways to keep that joy, and to continue to spread it for them. Driving the news: Anthropic on Thursday announced two versions of its Claude 4 family of models, including Claude 4 Opus, which the company says is capable of working for hours on end autonomously on a task without losing focus. Anthropic considers the new Opus model to be so powerful that, for the first time, it's classifying it as a Level 3 on the company's four-point scale, meaning it poses "significantly higher risk." As a result, Anthropic said it has implemented additional safety measures. Between the lines: While the Level 3 ranking is largely about the model's capability to enable renegade production of nuclear and biological weapons, the Opus also exhibited other troubling behaviors during testing. In one scenario highlighted in Opus 4's 120-page "system card," the model was given access to fictional emails about its creators and told that the system was going to be replaced. On multiple occasions it attempted to blackmail the engineer about an affair mentioned in the emails in order to avoid being replaced, although it did start with less drastic efforts.

Chicagoland drivers, watch out for this maniac who tailgated me on the highway (94), sideswiped, tried to cut us off, & then cussed me and my son out.

Based on the 30 seconds of aggressive driving I observed, he surely has a long history of driving violations.

R.I.P. - Millennium Challenge Corporation #YouveBeenDOGED Notes from the all-hands meeting today at MCC: All MCC programs will be closed. No new programming is expected. The agency will effectively be shut down. For the countries that received an exemption and that have active construction the agency has requested a four month wind down (Ivory Coast) and three month wind down (Mongolia, Senegal, and Nepal). Staffing levels will be maintained for statutory requirement which is expected to be bare minimum (eg just a few) DOGE will draft a resolution for the board as soon as next week. No board resistance is expected. A board meeting has not been set but expected to be called for soon (perhaps 30 days). Staff have until next Tuesday to decide to take deferred retirement/fork or RIF. The RIF process timing is unknown but expected to start as soon as next Wednesday. MCC contracts will start being terminated tomorrow (via DOGE) MCAs in non-exempted countries have already issued stop work notices and will be told to terminate. RCMs have been given green light to communicate closure with host country governments/counterparts today.
