Please help bees, butterflies and birds by reducing the mowing this year! By leaving a patch of grass in your garden to flower you'll be helping wildlife while reducing effort, cost and carbon emissions. Cartoon courtesy of @sepponet.bsky.social

Please consider leaving dead plants in your garden over the winter, rather than ‘tidying’ them up. It’s an easy way to help wildlife! Hollow stems provide homes for hibernating insects, such as lacewings and ladybirds, and birds will feed on the seeds of teasels, sunflowers and thistles.

Please say no to pesticides and herbicides. Cocktails of these chemicals in fields, gardens, parks, verges, community spaces are poisoning wildlife including bees, birds, hedgehogs, butterflies, beetles, frogs, damselflies, and polluting our rivers. Let's give nature a chance 🐝

This shows what can be done in our cities and towns! Please share if you’d like to see more green spaces boosting biodiversity and providing a lifeline for pollinating insects like this beautiful wildflower meadow at @kingscollege.bsky.social at @cambridgeuni.bsky.social. Let’s bring nature back 🐝
