Why does Rice play Texas?
There’s only so much you can do with intro material- even Feynman’s legendary lectures were not very good at teaching physics to college freshmen

The MIT OCW lectures are good, though

I was thinking along the lines of Waco and the ATF - they do not count that as a success (and I think that’s good)

I have a friend who needed accommodations in engineering undergraduate- once he got them, he did well and is very successful professionally. The alternative is him literally flunking out, how is that better for anyone?

(Not nimbyism, but dominance by a larger body with diverging interests)

i think any insurgency’s success would be based on political rather than military factors (armed forces refuse to carry out orders, etc)

You ever read “Rogue Male” by Geoffrey Gordon-Creed? He talks about doing a bunch of insurgency stuff in the hills of Greece and then says “yeah we couldn’t do any of that now, because of helicopters“

One of the cruel ironies of the modern concept of retirement is that the people who could work longer usually don’t need to. Consider the plumber at 55 with bad knees, and my grandma’s 90-year-old semi-retired judge friend whose mind was still sharp

It’s just boredom, I think. Doing the optimal thing, the smart thing, investing in index funds, it’s not as exciting as doing something weird and stupid

With ~$50B of batteries we can accommodate all of the load growth in the USA through 2030. But they have to be placed in the right places on the distribution grid. So think less 100 MW single deployments and more 3-8MW distributed deployments and behind the meter batteries at homes and businesses.

I’m very intrigued by fine-tuning small models for specific purposes. This video is an interesting proof of concept, there’s clearly some distance to go but it’s a more positive vision than using massive generic models, to me m.youtube.com/watch?v=D3pX...
