Paywalled article attached. A ©️ violation but important by @baharostadan.bsky.social documenting two-tiered justice in Nassau County. Easing my guilt by asking you to subscribe to the *only* in-depth daily serving 3 million residents.

Landscpaping workers performing the polluting, noisy yearly ritual of blowing leaves from the lawns of Long Island yards to be carted out of sight. Long Island (aka Lawn Island) municipalites debate their fate, but it's too much for the landscaping firms to lose. Few workers have ear protection.

❄️ Another frosty morning photo - a Locust Tree seed pod laying on grass. ❄️

Before the ‘real’ work this morning, while it was still frosty and dewy, there was this icey autumn vignette. The delicate ice is only a few millmeters deep. A pinch deeper, where warmer air remained, was frost free. Soon, these feral suburban leaves will be banished to plastic bags. #FreeTheLeaves

Worthwhile quote in attached image and alt-text revealing that 10% of those voting for him swung to him from Trump.
The peace of mind that comes from affordability and economic stability is non-partisan and is alway #1 with the electorate.

Most Western European countries have seen a decrease in pedestrian deaths. They, too, however, are grappling with the increasing popularity of SUVs, and there is a vibrant policy debate on what, if anything, should be done to limit them, e.g., weight taxes.

0°C/32°F this morning here in ancestral Matinecock territory on Long Island. Snowflakes flying in with the gusty northwest wind. Winter approaches in New York.

You don't have to be good at anything or work very hard or be an opinion leader to appreciate the daily beauty offered by our very patient mother earth.

This from last month about the Long Island Greenway, a multi-use active transportation and recreation trail that breaks ground in 2026. Martin Buchmann of NY Bicycling Coalition reviews the plan and Eric Alexander of Vision Long Island holds up the map for him.

Note to self: Bring delicate house plants inside. There is a frost warning tonight for Metro New York region.

People working hard to bring us food the last few feet. Something to consider when voting today.

Best read in clear, bright sunlight. Dense, fascinating abstract & meditation of Iraq War II and its aftershadows by great photographer Moises Saman. Buy, or loan at Suffolk County New York library system.

A jogger runs in the misty rain and slippery conditions along Pidgeon Hill Road in South Huntington, New York. Weather photo from yesterday - no sale - 😿. Anyway, note the car at the top of the frame parked on the poorly constructed sidewalk, an overgrown, unraised asphalt trail. Deadly.

More and more deer in average suburban yards. This is mine. Never had them in the decades I've lived here. The yard has asters, violets, goldenrod,, wild lettuce, etc. And other plants I have to pull out like knotweed, wineberry, docks, and mugwort - but they eat it.

Whether you're on foot, cycling, driving or delivering the mail here in the east, take care. Rain, wind, with blowing leaves, makes travel especially treacherous.

This is my one time in and around Bozeman, Montana. Much has changed since then (2007). The benefits of an energetic college town in an inspiring setting are irresistible to many. This view, not too near downtown, may not exist anymore.

If you're not familiar, this is Broadway near Canal Street close to where the raid reportedly took place. I've obscured faces. Vendors are understandably wary of photography.

Strip mall America, strip mall family businesses, and quintessential Long Island pizza and pasta restaurant. This is Spuntino a few years ago. I left a credit card there. Going back for it, they said they could well have burned it in the brick wood oven. 😬

I was in South Huntington. Several things were notable, but especially the energized seniors, some more able-bodied than others, rallying around threats to constitutional democracy and pocketbook issues.

There was no evidence of violence or coordinated hateful activity at South Huntington, New York's No Kings Day rally yesterday.
