Correct. This "the changed parts are interpreted/slow" also only happens on iOS. On all other platforms all changes are always full speed.

I think book 3 was my favorite. I finished all 7, read a couple John Scalzi and am now making my way back through book 1 again. 🤣

Also each one is better for a while. His first ~4 were self published before it blew up. I think my favorites were 3 and 6.
