Historians at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello have announced the identification of 6 additional individuals who were enslaved at the plantation. www.29news.com/2025/10/21/m...
It marks the first time new names have been added to the estate’s memorial dedicated to honoring the enslaved community.

The six people include four adults—Moses, Nanny, Mary Ann Hern, and Robert—and two children whose names remain unknown.

Replacing term papers with in-class writing assignments may be nearly as devastating to writing as AI cheating. It will accelerate the culture of the hot take. I don’t know what to do. So far, I think the only hope is for those who don’t *want* to cheat.

This, FWIW, is my current teaching policy on AI, always subject to revision. It is, I recognize, easier applied to creative writing, which draws students who *want* to take the course rather than have to.
