VP, IGN. I post about: video games, pinball, board games, fatherhood, science, Lego, and shenanigans.
I've put 25 hrs into Against the Storm and I totally agree with the Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

It's a super clever, satisfying, and addictive roguelike city builder.

Semi-random roguelite setup = you get the best parts of a city builder (the opening 1-2 hrs!) w/o it just feeling repetitive.

I played through most of Little Rocket Lab over the last few weeks and enjoyed it. A fun blend of Factorio + Stardew Valley:

store.steampowered.com/app/2451100/...

It's not as good as either of those all-time classics and isn't meant to last 100+ hours, but it's a very satisfying ~20hr journey.

IDK who needs to hear this but Kairosoft has been publishing their games to steam for a while now and they're discounted as part of the autumn sale.

Stacking game discounts + bundle discounts gets them down to ~$2-3 each, which is the right price for them IMO.

I just nabbed a bunch!

Upon reflection, I have figured out that my favorite genre of game is "just a bunch of weird little guys, running around."

Starcraft, Pikmin, Dwarf Fortess, Tropico, Kingdom Rush, Vampire Survivors.

Banished, Civilization, Rimworld.

Factorio is technically one guy but it counts thanks to bots.

9. Incredibly poorly-laid-out early game chemical factory, breaking down tar into useful materials.
10. Making simple circuit boards w/ all required materials (batteries, vacuum tubes, solder, treated wood etc.)

~30 hours in now.

5. Mass Moss / seaweed production
6. Expanded steam power
7. Tree farms & wood cutting
8. Sap production & mushroom / methane production

I've started playing Factorio again, this time with the ultra-complex "masochistic" Pyanodon's overhaul mods. (I personally think Py's reputation is overblown).

Some shots of my factory -

1. Iron mining/smelting column
2. (Very) Early-game item mall
3. Simple steam setup
4. Ash storage/disposal

Sakurai's great.

He talks about how Kirby seems too close to Mario Kart and perhaps too much like it. And it seems like he's about to say "but my game is more focused on speed / combat / minigames" or whatever.

But instead he just says basically "yeah, it's weird they're both so close. Anyway..."

Started up a new (attempted) F2P Battle Cats account earlier this summer. Made some pretty good progress. Great game.

- Completed Empire of Cats w/ all treasures
- Into the Future w/ all treasures
- Unlocked the Aku Realms
- Unlocked all crazed cats
- On Stories of Legend Subchapter 24

Batman: Arkham Knight came out 10 years(!!) ago.

I just want to go on record saying I don't need video games to look any better than this. This is good enough.

I would take this, forever, to get back to 3-4 year dev cycles for big single-player games.

Thanks to everyone that came out to IGN Live and found me to say hello! It means a lot to me. It feels very special to hear from folks that the whole family listens to Game Scoop together (sorry for the swears), or that my perspective on games resonates with someone.

If you are already at or plan to come to #IGNLive this weekend, remember we've expanded the hall! There are gaming stations *upstairs* with Mario Kart 9, new Capcom games, and that game with the huge cat butt 😅
